Program Theme

STEAM! Science, technology, engineering, art, and math explored through the award-winning books by Alexandra Siy.

Program Description

Award-winning science writer and photographer, Alexandra Siy, inspires students to explore STEAM.

She presents to large groups and also offers classroom and after-school workshops that integrate the Next Generation Science Standards and the arts. Alexandra’s interdisciplinary multi-media show includes science demos, primary source imagery, video and sound, that immerses students in other worlds revealed by powerful microscopes and telescopes–inspiring them to discover how form is related to function, why scale is essential, that measurement matters, and many other crosscutting concepts–while learning how scientists and engineers solve problems.

Alexandra will work with you to customize her programs to accommodate your school’s needs and preferences. Popular programs include: NAME THAT BUG! (grades 1-5) which explores insects and spiders while viewing astonishing photography taken with a microscope; GOING INTERSTELLAR (grades 3 and up) which explores our solar system and outer space in a multimedia program featuring 3D images, space photography, video, and sound; ROAD TRIP MARS (grades 3 and up), an exploration of Mars through photography and science writing; SHOOT FOR THE MOON (grades K-2) a lunar adventure through pictures and words; LET’S READ, COUNT, AND SHOUT (preK-1) introducing numbers, word opposites, and storytelling in a fun-interactive story hour; and INSTASTEM (grades 4 and up) an interactive science writing and photography workshop.
