Program Theme
Animals and Habitats of the World – Learn about them, draw them, see how books about them are made.
Program Description
Visit deserts, grasslands, mountains and rain forests and learn about each habitat’s animals, adaptations, life cycles and food webs. Each 1-hour assembly features illustrations from the Habitats of the World book series by Sheri Amsel, plus special photos of rare and endangered animals from around the world, including a trip down the Amazon River in search of the mysterious pink dolphin. Both assemblies also show how the author creates her book illustrations from photos taken at zoos and wild habitats around the world.
K-6 programs receive 2 assemblies (K-2 and 3-6) followed by three 30-minute classroom sessions.
Programs targeting smaller groups (one grade level) can receive one assembly plus 4-5 classroom sessions.
Each visit includes a book sale and signing offering several of the author’s books at special discounted prices. All students receive bookmarks.
Programs also include Habitat Poster Illustration in the Classroom
During classroom sessions, students work with the author-illustrator to learn about habitats and how to draw their own habitat posters with step by step instructions (adapted for age level).
