Program Theme
Harmonic blend of Irish stories, enhanced by music and song
Program Description
In performance and workshop, storyteller Bairbre McCarthy demonstrates how early Irish myths and legends blend with the history of Ireland. With her lilting Irish accent, she encourages audience participation. She is a native of Ireland and is the author of several Irish storybooks and tapes.
Bairbre speaks Gaelic, French, and German, and presents story workshops which provide exposure to a broad range of cultural and literary traditions and allows the students to participate in the creation and telling of stories.
Music and song enhance the performances and workshops when Bairbre is joined by multi-instrumentalist Frank Orsini. Frank’s skill on fiddle, mandolin and guitar allows Bairbre to demonstrate and teach traditional Irish dance.
Bairbre and Frank also present a program entitled THE HISTORY OF IRELAND THROUGH STORY AND SONG. This program includes stories of the Irish potato famine and the role of the Irish in America.
Bairbre is a NYS certified language teacher and will work with you to create a storytelling that fits your needs. Her program, STORYTELLING TO STORYWRITING is a workshop designed to help students to prepare for ELA standardized tests.
