Program Description
Math & Movement uses multi-sensory learning approaches to teach students valuable skills to succeed in their school’s math and reading curricula. Math & Movement recognizes that students learn through different styles which is why our exercises include teaching with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic elements aligned with most state standards.
The learning process is more effective and easier when students exercise their bodies and minds simultaneously through educational math games, helping students retain more information. This, in turn, increases students test scores, self-confidence, and retention rates.
Best of all, kids love to learn this way! Especially when worksheets become cool math games.
In the full-day, residency-style program, we begin with an energy-boosting morning assembly. We briefly share the benefits of including physical activity throughout the school day and why Math & Movement increases focus, concentration and brain power.
We lead the assembly in specific brain-boosting Math & Movement activities such as Elephant March, Jump Box Fours, or the Nines Twist.
Through the process of engaging in these Math & Movement activities, students will become comfortable with the whisper/loud method of counting and active math skip counting. Students are then invited to come onstage and share their interests. Together, we develop a math-movement and then lead the entire assembly in the newly-developed movement. For example, for the student that enjoys basketball, our movement may be dribble left, whisper “ONE”, dribble right, whisper “TWO” and shoot ball while jumping and saying loudly “THREE”.
After the assembly, we move to a larger space where smaller groups of students rotate through the kinesthetic learning stations. Students hop, jump or skip to determine answers to their math problems! Schools have many options for choosing the stations.
